Animals in an attic can cause all kinds of problems, one of which is that they damage and contaminate insulation.
Some animals, like raccoons, seem to love tearing up the insulation for the sheer joy of it. They just tear it right off the walls and out from between the rafters and joists. Other animals, like rats and squirrels, don't tear it up so much as they flatten it out by running back and forth across it. That irreparably destroys the insulation's heat-insulating value, which results in higher energy bills.
In addition, animals in your attic contaminate the insulation with their urine, droppings, fur, and shed parasites. The insulation becomes a sort of "dispenser" that holds bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens and releases them into the air. It also causes the attic to smell, and sometimes that smell can work its way into the living area (especially if your heating and air-conditioning equipment is up in the attic).
Once insulation is contaminated, there's no way to clean it; and once it's flattened out, there's no way to fluff it back up. It has to be removed, properly disposed of, and replaced. There really is no other option.
A lot of customers are surprised to learn that we provide insulation installation. We, in turn, are surprised to learn that they're surprised. Removing contaminated insulation and replacing it with fresh insulation is such a common part of an attic animal-removal job that it's considered pretty much routine.
What sets Rid-A-Critter apart, however, is that we own our own state-of-the-art insulation-removal and -installation equipment, and we send our own people to be trained to use it. Most other companies use subcontractors. Others do the work themselves but rent the equipment as they need it. We're one of the few companies that have our own equipment and staff dedicated to doing insulation work.
The main reason why we invested in the wherewithal to do our own insulation work is because that's the only way we can assure that our high quality standards are being maintained throughout the entire job. Another benefit is that it makes the process more convenient and seamless for the homeowner. Because we use our own people and own our own equipment, we're not competing with other contractors for scheduling. Our crews are ready to roll when they're needed.
This kind of fine control over scheduling is important because there actually are several steps to an insulation job:
Doing this work in-house means that we can schedule every step in the way that best assures the quality of the finished job, not the convenience of a contractor. It also makes us more flexible and better able to work around the occasional problems that delay one or another step of an animal-removal job. It's just a better way to go all around.
